Non-Partisan Civic Engagement

We have been running non-partisan voter engagement campaigns in Nevada since 2004 to help build public support for conservation priorities as well as encourage citizens to participate in the electoral process. Our programs are based on best practices from experts and developed using the latest non-partisan conservation voter modeling.  Over the past 10 years we have contacted over 300,000 Nevadans, made over 200,000 phone calls, and knocked on thousands of doors.

Our Campaigns

Healthy Communities, Healthy Families

In 2011 and 2012 we embarked on our first ever bilingual campaign in partnership with Mi Familia Vota Education Fund and Democracia Education Fund. Our program, in Spanish known as “Communidades Saludables, Familias Saludables” was targeted at Spanish language communities in southern Nevada and involved a series of local events, including bilingual panels on clean air, public lands, and the Colorado River. Our efforts were based on polling data that showed Hispanic attitudes towards a healthy environment, and a willingness to take actions towards protecting our environment, out-performed the general noting population.

Our efforts culminated in a canvass that connected with over 5,000 households with a “pledge to vote” card based on our shared values of access to clean air and water, and the protection of our parks and public lands.

Defense of the Clean Air Act

The Environmental Protection Agency came under attack during the 111th Congress. We partnered with a number of health care organizations and other clean air advocates in 2011 and 2012 to help build support in for the work that the EPA would undertake implementing clean air regulations.  Our program focused on media outreach, public information sessions, email advocacy, and we generated thousands of phone calls and hundreds of letters to local, state, and federal elected leaders in support of these regulations. See our blog for more details about some of the fun events that we hosted.

Make the Switch

In 2009 and 2010 we mailed over 30,000 Nevadans a pair of educational mail pieces on the benefits of expanding our renewable energy and efficiency programs in Clark and Washoe County. Over 1,000 Nevadans took an action by sending a postcard to NV Energy and local government boards expressing your support and thanking them for their commitment to a cleaner, healthier Nevada.

I Have a Green Job

In 2010 we partnered with the Clean Energy Project to help build public support for clean energy industries in Nevada. This informative four-piece mail and video campaign stressed the fact that green jobs are available now and not just a future promise. We mailed over 70,000 households and encouraged them to read the personal stories of four Nevadans who have transitioned into a green job from either unemployment or underemployment.

We also asked these individuals to sign a clean energy pledge and to sign-up for future updates.

Finally, we called over 25,000 Nevadans to inform them about various voting options in the 2010 election cycle with an emphasis on early voting. Our phone canvassers used the latest non-partisan voter modeling and predictive dialing software to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our outreach. We saw an increase in civic participation with the citizens we contacted when compared other registered voters in their communities.
